Wolfforth Council OKs audit agreement
Wolfforth City Council members approved an audit agreement with Ehler and Hettler for 2012, but some council members said they may want to see if cheaper options are available in the future.
Councilman Bruce MacNair asked the council members if they had looked at any other auditors, and City Secretary Debbie Perkey said the city has been using the same auditor since before she started in the city offices more than 20 years ago.
Other council members said they would also like to see different services given that the maximum cost for auditing services from Ehler and Hettler is $12,000, although they said they were very happy with the service they receive from the agency.
MacNair, a former purchasing agent for the city of Lubbock, said the city really should put out a Request for Qualifications, but he said it should probably be done much earlier in the year, since the audit process is in October.
The council members approved the audit agreement, but Councilman Randy Gross said he would really like to start a process to put out a Request for Qualifications, or RFQ, in January 2013.
Council members also approved an ordinance establishing regulations for portable storage containers.
Perkey said the ordinance covers storage containers that are temporarily placed on a property and then moved off site to a longer-term storage facility elsewhere.
The city had no provision allowing that sort of container before, but after the Planning and Zoning Board recommended it following a neighbor dispute, the council held public hearings.
Monday night was the third of those public hearings, and no one showed up to discuss the portable storage containers. Perkey said residents may feel they have already stated their feelings on the matter.
The council approved the new ordinance with no comments by a 5-0 margin.
Council members also approved a May financial report and a request for an alcohol consumption permit for the Wolfforth Area Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture’s Barbecue Cook-off in Patterson Park.
