Wolfforth Chamber president seeks to promote businesses

The Wolfforth Area Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture is seeking more opportunities for its business owners to get together and find out how the chamber can help them.

A former chamber president said she believes the organization has a leader now who can help with that goal.

Joe Hanslik was named the new president of the Wolfforth chamber several months ago.

Terri Robinette, former chamber president, said Hanslik has a background in business and a variety of experience and knowledge to help lead the chamber.

“He just comes from a good background to know what businesses need, what they want out of their chamber membership,” Robinette said. “I think he fits the role of the chamber president very well.”

Hanslik, an account executive for Bates Wells Advertising, said he grew up in Lubbock, graduating from Monterey High School. But he said his roots in Wolfforth began to grow when he was in high school and his father bought an 80-acre pecan farm there.

“Wolfforth has really been part of my life ever since I was in high school,” he said, noting how far it seemed from Lubbock in those days.

Later in life, he and his wife, LaDonna, settled in West Lubbock inside the Frenship school district. But he said the activities of their two sons, Brandon and Nicholas, were always in Wolfforth, so the family ultimately moved to the town in 2003.

“Everything that we did was in Wolfforth,” he said. “It’s just a neat place to live. Everybody’s so friendly.”

Hanslik said growth is coming to Wolfforth, with more new homes going up all the time.

“We’ve got so many things that are really on the verge of happening out here,” he said.

The chamber consists of volunteers from local businesses, Hanslik said. The organization’s biggest event is the Harvest Festival, but he said the chamber wants to do more.

“Our whole purpose is just to promote business in Wolfforth,” he said.

Hanslik said he enjoys outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and shooting skeets and sporting clays.
