Wainscott new asst. principal at 9th-grade center
As construction continues at the Frenship Independent School District’s Ninth-Grade Center, its staff is starting to come together.
Heather Wainscott was named the assistant principal at the center, which is located east of the district’s high school and is scheduled to open in August for the 2017-18 school year.
Wainscott currently it a second grade teacher at Bennett Elementary, In her 14th year with the school district, Wainscott taught within the Lubbock, Keller, Dallas and St. Tammany Parish ISDs at different grade levels.
She is a Texas Tech graduate with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She completed her masters in Education Administriation from Lamar University.
Heath Simpson was named the principal of the Ninth Grade Center earlier this school year. FISD anticipates more than 725 students to enroll at the new facility next school year.
District officials said the new center will help improve grades in the growing area and help with students’ transition to high school.
According to an earlier report, the bond was approved to help with the growth and enrollment the district has seen in the last few years.
In November 2015, Frenship High School reported an enrollment of 2,549 students, which meets the criteria announced by the UIL to compete in Class 6A this season — the only Lubbock-area school to remain in the state’s largest classification.
The bond was approved by 60.87 percent of 2,277 voters in 2014 and includes the new Ninth-Grade Center, an additional elementary school, technology and security upgrades and campus renovations.
