Tas Montessori School offers young students a unique method of learning
Tas Montessori School in Wolfforth, Texas, is currently in its seventh year of providing children ages two and through nine with a unique method of education.
Tasleem Mirza and her staff teach children using the Montessori Method. The Montessori Method relies on the belief that children learn individually and progress at their own pace. In order for the children to accomplish this, the Montessori Method focuses on the needs, order, construction, self-reliance and independence of the child using materials specifically designed to allow a child to discover his or her own error through further manipulation of self-correcting material under the direction of the trained Montessori teacher.
The Montessori teacher is never a dictator or director, but rather a guide or facilitator who helps the child grow and develop at his or her own pace.
The classroom is characterized by a prepared environment and is divided into the five different areas: Practical Life, Sensorial Learning, Math, Language, and Geography and Social Sciences. The children learn though classroom time and through a detailed Circle Time where they will focus on all areas, including learning sign language and Spanish.
Practical Life exercises are designed to develop concentration, independence, and sense of order by using exercises such as folding, pouring or sponging water into bowls and working with dressing frames. This area is designed to help the children perform those basic tasks that adults perform.
Sensorial exercises focus on developing their perception of the dimension of colors, as well as developing their tactile and auditory senses by using Montessori materials.
In the area of math, the children who graduate will have mastered the four groups – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
The transition of Tas Montessori School graduate students to private school such as All Saints, Trinity Christian School and public school is seamless and very easy for the child. Parents report that their children adapt positively to their new school, oftentimes having knowledge that far surpasses the current curriculum at a normal school.
Tas Montessori School is excited to announce that they are opening their Elementary School, first through third grade, this fall. Please call (806) 783-0054 or (806) 786-0763 for more information.
