When ABC Bank decided to raise funds for Special Olympics – Texas, Missy Hopson knew how to help.

The bank hosted Customer Appreciation Days at its 50th Street, 19th Street and Wolfforth branches.

At the 50th Street branch, the bank had food, a rock wall and spider climber, a torch run and an Amtryke donation to a Special Olympian.

Hopson, who has been involved with AMBUCS for two years, had the idea for the Amtryke giveaway.

“(Amtrykes) are bicycles meant for kids who can’t ride regular bicycles. They’re therapeutic and they help to build strength in their arms and legs.”

AMBUCS is a service organization which promotes mobility and independence for people with disabilities. Hopson currently serves as the Caprock chapter secretary. She heard about the organization from a co-worker and decided to join during the club’s Caprock Holiday Basketball Tournament.

How to Donate

Missy Hopson, the assistant vice president and special assets manager of the Wolfforth branch of ABC Bank, said donations for Special Olympics – Texas will be taken at the bank through the year. To donate, call Hopson at 775-5170 or Diana Melcher at 775-5230.

“Going to the tournament and seeing the Amtrykes that were given away to the kids just really made me want to be a part of it,” said Hopson.

She is also the assistant vice-president and special assets manager for the ABC Bank Wolfforth branch. She said the bank encourages its employees to volunteer.

The bank hosted the fundraiser during Customer Appreciation Days to give the customers a chance to help out the organization.

“We like to get the customers involved,” said Hopson. “… Our customers are just as good about giving back to the community as we are.”

Hopson believes volunteering is a good way to help people in need.

“I want to give back as much as I can to people who are not as fortunate as I am,” she said.
