Holder named Harvest Festival Queen
Ashley Holder had never entered a pageant or worn a tiara in her life, but on Saturday, she was named the queen of the Wolfforth Harvest Festival.
“I was really surprised that I won it, honestly,” said the Frenship High School senior. “I thought there were a lot better girls that could have won it besides me, but it was pretty awesome.”
It’s a little hard to imagine how many girls could be more active than Holder. She’s the president of Frenship High School’s BPA, secretary of DECA, secretary of National Honor Society, photographer for the theater department, marketing editor of the FHS yearbook and a member of the Bell Crew, which runs flags and rings the bell at Frenship games.
Those are just the official FHS activities. She is also into photography, dance, babysitting and coaching soccer, which she played for 12 years. She also works in the South Plains Mall at The Candy Wrapper.
Holder, the second child of nine, said her younger siblings were very excited that she was named the Harvest Queen, especially her youngest sister.
“She’s the youngest of all of us, and we call her the princess. She thought it was cool that I got a real crown. It was fun to go tell them,” she said.
She didn’t wear her crown around the house all Saturday and revel in being a queen.
She had to go to work.
But she said her boss wants her to bring the crown to work so she can take a picture of her in it.
“She was excited for me,” said the queen.
Holder said she applied to be the Harvest Queen because of the scholarship, but she said she is not yet sure where she will go to school.
“Possibly (Texas) A&M,” she said. But I know that I want to major in business, wherever I go.”
