Frenship junior’s homecoming date asked via Broadway
You may have heard of high school boys asking celebrities to go to high school dances before, but a Frenship High School junior asked a celebrity to ask a girl to homecoming for him.
Seth McNeill was with his girlfriend, Kennedy Reeves, at a Broadway showing of “Wicked” this summer. After the show, Seth and Kennedy hung out by the stage door where actors leave and met Tiffany Haas, who regularly plays Glinda in “Wicked.”
It was after that meeting that both of the Frenship students friended Haas on Facebook.
“She was just really nice,” Seth said.
When he was trying to think of a cute way to ask Kennedy to homecoming, he said asking Haas to tweet his request to her was the first idea that came to mind. Luckily, she agreed.
On Sept. 1, Haas tweeted a picture of herself holding a letter to Kennedy.
“Dearest Darlingest Kennedy!” the letter states. “Will you go to the homecoming with me? Love, Seth”
At the bottom of the page, Haas added her own message: “Go for it girl! He’s a cutie!”
Haas’ tweet to @KennedyJReeves says, “…….so what’s your answer? xo”
It only took about two minutes for Kennedy to respond: “@TiffanyJHaas OH MY GOODNESS, I AM CRYING… @Sthmcnl1 YES YES YES!!!!!”
There were also a few emoticons on that tweet indicating Kennedy was crying and sending a heart.
Kennedy said she got a notification that night that Haas had tweeted her and thought it was weird.
“I thought, ‘Why is a Broadway star tweeting me? That doesn’t make any sense,’” Kennedy said. “I really cried when I saw it.
“This stuff only happens in movies.”
Getting the invite via Haas was special, Kennedy said.
“She’s really inspiring and awesome,” the high school senior said.
Both Kennedy and Seth hope to someday star on Broadway. Kennedy plans to study in Chicago or New York City after graduating this year so she can start auditioning.
Kennedy and Seth both got a few more Twitter followers out of it, but Kennedy said that has slowed down in the past week. But, she said, “People are still kind of talking about it.”
Several people retweeted Haas’s picture and tweet, calling Seth the “best BF ever.”
Seth said it didn’t occur to him that he would get this much attention for asking Haas to ask Kennedy to homecoming. He just wanted to do something special for Kennedy.
“I didn’t expect this to happen,” he said, referring to the interview with Frenship Today. “I wanted to find a cute way to ask her to homecoming.”
Seth said the duo will probably go out to eat, watch the homecoming game against Odessa High and then go to a movie for their homecoming date. Other than the game, he said dinner and a movie is a typical date night for the couple.
