Frenship ISD received its building permit for a new elementary school on Feb. 26.
The district is working with Lee Lewis Construction to build the new facility that will be located at 10020 Upland Ave., is approximately 112,589 square feet and is valued at $17.9 million.
Derek Cobb, Frenship ISD’s director of facilities, said the project is in its early construction phase as they are working to get the groundwork up to grade. The next step will include electrical and mechanical underground work.
Cobb said the new school will have a full-competition gym with seating for approximately 500 people and is expected to be much larger than Frenship’s current elementary schools.
“Our previous schools were built to a capacity of about 750 students,” he said, “and this one will be built to 1,000. So, there is actually an extra classroom per grade level.”
