Frenship High band students named to All-Region
Several Frenship High School band students earned All-Regional honors this past weekend at the Texas Music Educators Association All-Region auditions.
Forty will move on to the next level of Area A auditions to earn spots in the All-State band.
Tom SoRelle, FHS band director, said the Area A auditions in Abilene will include All-Region band students from all over West Texas, the Panhandle and some students in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
SoRelle said having 66 students selected for All-Region honors is about normal for FHS, as is having 40 more who will advance to the Area A auditions.
“Forty is an amazing number. It’s lots of kids,” SoRelle said.
He said of all the Texas students who start out on the path to All-State, only about 2 percent end up traveling to San Antonio each February to play in one of the All-State bands.
“It’s very difficult to make Texas All-State,” SoRelle said.
SoRelle said this region picked up two more 4A schools to compete with this year.
Students who made All-Region include: Rynae Pavino, Amanda Branagan, Avery Bouffard, Andrea Hinojosa, Megan Bednarz, Gertrude Kamau, Marisa Pincock, Katrina Wilson, Melissa Hostick, Mia Zamora, Jacob Lovett, Shelby Gonzales, Jenny McCrummen, Lori Howard, Patrick Kamau, Kendall Slaughter, Chase Guthrie, Nick Speights, Eric Rosales, Tim Toledo, Mariah Budomo, Samuel Hnatek, Josiah Baker, Levi Hackworth and Valentine Ramirez.
