Frenship grad marries high school sweetheart
Sometimes love lives right down the street.
Brenda Wood Hart has known her husband Kevin since they were 14. They grew up on the same street and dated once or twice at Frenship High School. But Brenda was uncertain Kevin was the man she was supposed to spend the rest of her life with.
After high school, Brenda was in a serious relationship with someone else and moved to Arlington. She ended up moving back to Lubbock.
Kevin contacted her and said, “Don’t ever do that to me again.”
“Do what?” said Brenda.
“You left me. Don’t ever do that to me again,” he answered.
“So what are you saying? Is that some kind of marriage proposal?” said Brenda, playfully.
He paused a moment. “As a matter of fact, it is,” he said.
“Well, OK. Yes, I will marry you,” said Brenda.
They dated a little more than a year before exchanging vows in August 1999.
“We were best friends all through high school,” said Brenda. “We were still best friends after high school. It was just one of those ding-dong, the light goes on (moments). We knew we were meant to be together.”
Kevin told her he fell in love with Brenda the first moment he saw her.
“He said he knew I was the one back when we were 14,” said Brenda.
They kissed on a date for the first time their sophomore year. She still wasn’t certain Kevin was the one she would fall in love with.
“I was the one who said, ‘No, let’s be friends,’” she said.
They stayed friends in high school and graduated in 1998 before getting married a little more than a year later.
