FHS DECA student is nationals bound
It was an awarding weekend for the Frenship High School DECA program as members competed in the state competition in San Antonio.
“We had one student qualify for nationals and 19 that are alternate,” said Heather Allen, the Frenship DECA sponsor. “It’s definitelyrewarding when you see their hard work pay off, and all of my students worked very hard this year. I am very proud of them.”
It was particularly exciting for McCaleb Hart as she was announced as the school’s sole national qualifier to start the awards ceremony.
She not only qualified, but did so twice. She advanced in the MET Sports Visual Display event and MET Hospitality and Tourism gameboard.
“(Hart) was very excited,” Allen said. “Hers was the first name to be called. It just kind of set the tone for the rest of the day. So, it wasreally exciting.”
Allen said she is waiting on a phone call to see if she will be sharing additional good news with one or more of her 19 alternates.
According to its website, DECA is a nonprofit student organization with more than 185,000 high school members, 4,500 advisers and15,000 post-secondary collegiate division members around the world.
“DECA is built to be a platform to teach you about careers and help you with public speaking and getting you involved in communityservice,” said Allen, whose students helped within the community this year.
