FHS band students win honors
Two Frenship High School band students earned honors recently.
Rynae Pavino, a junior, earned a national solo award on piccolo from the Mark of Excellence Wind Band.
FHS Band Director Tom SoRelle turned in a recording of Pavino’s UIL solo, for which she received a ‘I,’ or superior rating.
Pavino said she started out on flute, but now focuses mainly on the piccolo.
“I feel like it’s easier for me to play, and I enjoy it more because everyone can hear you,” she said.
Winning an award, she said, “makes me feel like the work I’ve done, it’s paying off.”
Another Frenship High student, Lars Lindgren, is a freshman.
He recently received a scholarship to attend the International Percussion Convention on Oct. 31-Nov. 3.
“I had to send in a four-to five-minute video of me playing, and then I won a scholarship,” Lindgren said. He said marimba is his best instrument.
Lindgren did not get a chance to play at the convention, but he watched a lot of performances, he said.
“I was really excited to go,” Lindgren said.
