Eagle Scouts, art contest winners recognized

Western Art Contest winners for area youth

Four area youths took top awards Jan. 7 at the annual Western Art contest awards ceremony sponsored by the National Ranching Heritage Center at Texas Tech and the Lubbock County Junior Livestock Show.

Each entry was required to represent or express the spirit and semblance of ranching and/or the Lubbock County Junior Livestock Show. All entries will remain on exhibit in the main NRHC gallery until Tuesday.

Chloe Christensen of Shallowater High School was Grand Champion, Julian Garrison of Irons Middle School was named Reserve Champion. Madelyn Trocchio of Shallowater High School was the High School Champion, Mackenzie Dulin of Frenship Middle School was named Middle School Champion.

Bentley built and installed lockers for Paul’s Project

James Lloyd Bentley, 15, of Boy Scout Troop 157 completed his Eagle Scout project for Paul’s Project.

He built and installed 75 school-type lockers for the residents of Paul’s Project, Grace Campus. The lockers allowed the residents a place to secure belongings and build a sense of responsibility.

He received his Eagle Scout rank at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center on Monday. Bentley attends Monterey High School. He is the son of Jake and Darlene Bentley.

Ragain designed and built garden beds for Bayless

Mathew Lane Ragain, 18, of Boy Scout Troop 157 did his Eagle Scout project for Bayless Elementary School.

He designed and built garden beds for students to continue the school’s garden club and classroom learning.

He received his Eagle Scout rank at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center on Monday. Ragain attends Lubbock High School. He is the son of Mike and Melanie Ragain.

Robinson designed/built a new fence for veterans

Daniel Isaiah Robinson, 18, of Boy Scout Troop 157 did his Eagle Scout project for the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He built a fence around the perimeter of the VFW to provide safety and security for the post veterans and families.

He received his Eagle Scout rank at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center on Monday. Robinson is a recent graduate of Springboard Academics. He is the son of Terry and Susan Robinson.
