Men face different challenges than women while working on their relationship with God, and the organizer of a men’s conference to be held Nov. 14-15 at Cornerstone Bible Church hopes the conference will focus on those challenges.
“I think that there’s a need for focused attention to the kind of biblical mandates for men, in our relationship with God, in our relationship with our wives, and in our relationships with our children,” said David Backus, who is organizing the men’s conference for 7-8:30 p.m. Nov. 14 and 9 a.m. –12 p.m. Nov. 15.
The guest speaker at the event will be David Moore, founder of Two Cities Ministries and author of “The Last Men’s Book You’ll Ever Need” and several other books.
Backus said the event will focus on men’s relationships with God, and removing things men unintentionally substitute for the relationship.
“We sometimes substitute good works or charity or whatever instead of focusing on walking with Christ,” he said. Focusing on Christ first is most important, he said, and all other things will flow from that.
“He’s also going to talk about the need in men’s lives for accountability in a spiritual sense, so there will be some focus on that,” said Backus.
Backus said he is really excited about the men’s conference. The church has hosted many women’s conferences, but this is the first one for men, he said.
“Hopefully at the end of the conference we’ll be able to reorient ourselves to the Savior,” he said.
The conference is free and open to all men, Backus said, but he said he would like to have anyone attending call the church office at 783-9551 or his number at 928-8922 so a headcount can be taken for the breakfast at 8 a.m. before the Saturday session starts.
