Brownie Scout Troop 6891 helps displaced hurricane victims(0)

November 13, 2008

Brownie Scout Troop 6891 is learning more than how to sell peanuts and cookies. While collecting clothes, toys and other items for those displaced by Hurricane Ike, they’ve been learning about community service and compassion.

The troop has 18 Brownie Scouts who meet each Monday at North Ridge Elementary School. The Scouts put collection boxes up in the front of the school, and worked to pick up the donated items and sort and pack them into boxes.

Kendal Briles finds career as a football coach at Baylor University

Former Frenship High School quarterback Kendal Briles is once again on the sidelines with his father –-this time as an assistant coach at Baylor University.

Briles transferred to Frenship High School before his senior year after being named the Texas 4A Offensive Player of the Year in 1999. He had led Stephenville High School to a 16-0 record and the 4A state title that year while playing for his father, Art Briles.

Barbara McCrummen dubbed ‘The Cookie Lady’

Barbara McCrummen may have no idea how or when she received her nickname, but she does enjoy being known as the Cookie Lady of Frenship High School.

As a teacher in the Frenship Independent School District for 28 years, McCrummen has seen many changes. When the new building was constructed in the early 1980s, she said her classroom was behind the main building. After many additions over the years, her classroom is now part of the main building.

Bennett teacher, friends attend ‘HSM3’ premiere

A fourth-grade teacher working to keep in touch with her students at Bennett Elementary School won an opportunity to walk the red carpet and rub elbows with the stars of “High School Musical 3.”

Karen Fitzgibbons said her classroom’s favorite television shows seem to all be on the Disney Channel. When she began watching some of the shows, she enjoyed the “High School Musical” movies and other Disney shows.

Terra Vista students raise money for teacher of house fire

What would you do if you came home to find your house on fire? Your pets are dead of carbon monoxide poisoning, your belongings are ruined by smoke and you have only the clothes on your back.

If you happen to be a teacher or student at Terra Vista Middle School, you know the teachers and students will pitch in to help get you back on your feet.

Cade savors fatherhood, hunting

Former Frenship High School football player Brad Cade has gone on to play college football, teach and, most recently, sell cars.

The first year after his 1991 graduation from FHS, Cade played football at Kilgore College. He then laid out for a year before walking on as a punter and quarterback at Texas Tech.

Kreger anchors the Harvest Festival

Shawndelle Kreger spends a lot of time on her feet as the owner of a hair salon, Kuts & Kurls, as well as while running to stay in shape. Her love of running inspired her to take over the Fun Run and to help add an adult version of the race during this year’s Harvest Festival.

The Fun Run is a one-mile run for elementary school-aged children, but Kreger said many parents end up running with their children in the jog around Patterson Park in Wolfforth. So an adult five-kilometer run was added to the Harvest Festival schedule of events to accommodate runners who are older than elementary school students.

Judge manages family, volunteering and career

Coordinating the schedules of three children in three different Frenship schools, managing a busy volunteer schedule and taking up public speaking engagements could be a full-time position.

Add to that a career of being a newly appointed judge in County Court-at-Law No. 3, and one might wonder how Judge Judy Parker does it all.
