Casey named to Under Armour Pre-Season baseball team

Chandler Casey’s road to the 2015 Pre-Season Under Armour baseball tournament began nearly nine years ago when he was first introduced to the sport.
“I’ve been playing baseball since elementary school,” The Frenship senior said. “My parents always liked the game and they just got me into it, and I fell in love the first time I threw a ball.”
Now, the Frenship senior has turned his love of the game into the opportunity to represent the region as a part of the 2015 Under Armour Pre-Season baseball team.
Casey is the only player from the area who will participate in the tournament, and will represent the region on a team that will compete in three tournament games.
“I’m glad that I can represent the Panhandle,” Casey said, “and hope that I do my best out there.”
The pitcher/outfielder is one of only 218 high school baseball players from across the United States and Puerto Rico invited to play in the preseason tournament set to begin Friday in Mesa, Arizona, according to a news release from FISD director of public relations and information Andy Penney.
According to the Baseball Factory website, scouts will provide the participants with training tips to ensure the players will perform to their best abilities, and college-recruiting experts will answer questions and provide information to players and parents before the start of the tournament.
The Under Armour tournament allows for individual players from across the nation to showcase their talents to college and MLB recruits, who will be provided with video footage and a scout summary of each player.
Casey, and a few Frenship teammates, tried out for the tournament earlier in the year during the regular football season with players from across the area.
A few weeks later, he said he got the phone call on his selection to the team.
“There is a lot of good talent in the Panhandle,” he said. “I’m really trying to be humble with all this. It’s kind of crazy that all this is happening right now.”
Casey is involved in multiple sports programs, including football and basketball, and despite the tournament being held during the pre-district basketball season, he said his focus will always be on the task at hand.
“It’s in my head,” Casey said, “but I’m focused on basketball right now. When I get there it’s all going to change for me and go straight to baseball. I’m really nervous. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t, but I’m really excited to get out there and showcase my talent to everybody.”
