Back-to-school just 19 days away. Boo-hoo.

UPDATES in Italics below!

Most of the information that I needed for the next 19 days before school starts and my baby goes off to school is right here.

A brief summary:

  • Registration starts for elementary schools TOMORROW from 8:30-3:30, with an hour lunch break at noon. Elementary registration (including for pre-kindergarten!) will also occurring be Friday and Monday.
  • Middle school registration is Friday, Monday and Tuesday from 8:30-3:30, with NO lunch. (Those middle school registration workers need no such frills as lunches!)
  • High school registration started for seniors today. Juniors are tomorrow, sophomores are Friday and freshmen will be Monday. Names beginning with M-Z will register in the morning and A-L in the afternoon. I’ve made a mental note-to-self to ask what the heck Fish Camp is; in any case, it is Aug. 18 from 9 a.m. to noon.
  • Reese registration is Friday, Aug. 17.
  • Newbie New students should register Aug. 21-23.
  • According to that document, Meet the Teacher night is To Be Announced. But many of the elementary school sites I checked listed Aug. 23 as MTT night. Willow Bend even had a time of 5:30-7 p.m. listed, with a kindergarten orientation from 6:30-7 p.m. (Go Willow Bend!)
  • The Meet the Teacher night for all elementary schools is Aug. 23 from 5:30-7 p.m. The Meet the Teacher night for all middle schools is Aug. 21 from 5:30-7 p.m. Frenship High School will have a Meet the Teacher/Open House a few weeks into the school year so students’ schedules will be solidified. That information is from Andy Penney, FISD’s public relations director.
  • Westwind Elementary School is having a kindergarten orientation for parents and kiddos from 6-7 p.m. on the Aug. 23 Meet the Teacher night.
  • Most importantly, the first day of school is Aug. 27. That’s the same for everyone, so no juniors should be trying to tell their moms that school really doesn’t start until after Labor Day. Or Memorial Day. Slackers.

I had a few other questions though. First of all, school supplies: the days of going a week before school, finding out who your teacher is and getting a list of his/her supplies seem to be over. Instead, parents can now find school supply lists on the Frenship website. On the main Frenship site, click the button that says “Campuses” close to the top of the page. Select your child’s school and figure out what supplies they require from there.

My big major question was whether Frenship ISD allowed backpacks. You’d think I’d know this; I’ve been in and out of the various schools a few times over the past four years covering events. Alas, I never noticed if kids had backpacks. But I called my kid’s school today to make sure backpacks are kosher, and they are. Yay. I can’t wait to get my first Tuesday folder.

I still don’t know basic things like where to drop off my offspring, but I figure I can just dump her off somewhere on Milwaukee Avenue, and she can see it from there. Or maybe her teacher will have more details on Meet The Teacher night.
