Frenship churches schedule holiday events

Churches throughout the Frenship area will be celebrating the holidays with candlelight services, children’s plays and other special events.

At The Springs Fellowship, the church kicked off the Christmas holidays last Sunday with a family Christmas musical called “Nativity: Lights! Camera! Action!”

The musical was not a production that involved months of rehearsals; instead, children and their families took just over an hour and a half to make their costumes and learn a few basic lines for their part in the show.

Lesa Williams, the children’s pastor at The Springs Fellowship, said many families do not have the time to come to three months of rehearsals.

“Our families are so busy,” she said.

Starting December with a small Christmas production helps church members to get into the right frame of mind about the holiday, Williams said.

The Springs Fellowship will also hold a family sing-along at a church service on Dec. 23 at 10:30 a.m.

At Monterey Church of Christ, Senior Pastor Barry Stephens said the church has had a candlelight service for many years. The service will follow the children’s musical at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.

“Jesus comes as the light of the world,” Stephens said. Candlelight services demonstrate “in a pretty profound way that in the midst of darkness, Jesus brings light to the world.”
