Wolfforth Library director will be missed

I was very sad Tuesday to hear that Wolfforth Library Director Andi Youngblood Powers, 34, died Monday night.

I didn’t know Andi as well as I would have liked.

Here’s what I did know:

Andi loved to read and wanted everyone else to love it as well, especially your kids. She put a lot of energy into the summer reading program at the Wolfforth Library.

On a few occasions, I dropped by to take photos of the kids who were there for story hour during the summer. I also took pictures of Andi. It was really difficult to get a photo of Andi when she was reading to kids. Typically she was so animated while reading, the pictures looked a little silly. Those kids loved her enthusiasm.

I also know that Andi was a good friend. When her friend, Leslea Vardy Underwood, was battling cancer a second time two years ago, Andi was one of the ones trying to help raise money to assist her.

And I know that Andi was a great writer, a loving mom and someone who wanted to give back.  Her daughter was born 10 weeks premature, and she was grateful for the research done by the March of Dimes which she said helped to save her daughter. Since then, she has worked to raise money for March of Dimes each year, even when she was pregnant again with a son.

Rather than receiving flowers, Andi’s family wishes to continue her efforts to raise money for the March of Dimes. There is a Team Powers March of Dimes fund at Aim Bank in Wolfforth, or contributions can be sent to Andi’s home church, the Cowboy Church of the South Plains at P.O. Box 682, Wolfforth, TX79382.

Services for Andi are under the care and direction of Parkside Chapel Funeral Home of Hereford. A celebration of her life will be held Friday, Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. in Calvary Baptist Church.
