Wolfforth Chamber to host National Day of Prayer event

It is the 61st observance of the National Day of Prayer, but Wolfforth observe it May 3 for the first time between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Mayor L.C. Childers started attending the National Day of Prayer in Muleshoe two years ago and returned to give enthusiastic reports about it to the Wolfforth City Council.

This year, the Wolfforth Area Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture will host the event at the Patterson Park Pavilion, or if the weather is bad, in the Wolfforth Community Center. Both venues are inside Patterson Park.

The American Bank of Commerce will provide food, including barbecue sandwiches and hot dogs.

Childers said it is not a city-sponsored event. Five local preachers will lead prayers and talk during the event, and musicians Jim Elders and Randy Branum will sing a few songs.

“I’ve been to Muleshoe two years to see how theirs went,” Childers said. People can come and go throughout the event, he said, and usually will just stop eating to observe prayers from the preachers.

The preachers will pray about specific topics, Childers said, including the military, government, education and leaders.

Childers said it is good for people to come together, especially churches.

“It’s good to have community to come together and pray,” he said.
