Methodist men planning pancake breakfast

Pancakes and then golf.

Both are part of Wolfforth United Methodist’s Men’s weekend calendars in May and early June.

The annual pancake breakfast is set for 7-10 a.m. Saturday in the church at 102 Donald Preston Drive.

A golf tournament sponsored by the men’s group also is set on June 7 at Reese Center, said DeLoach.

Rusty DeLoach, who is directing the pancake breakfast, said the breakfast has been a church tradition for more than 10 years.

“I know it’s been going on at least 12 or 14 years,” he said.

But instead of having it on election day as in years past, DeLoach said this year’s pancake breakfast is a week earlier.

“We’ll have it a week beforehand,” he said.

All the pancake breakfast’s proceeds will aid in sending children to summer church camps, said DeLoach.

“We pay half (the funds) of each child to go to church camp,” he said.

DeLoach said he’s had a good turnout in years past, but hopes for more attendees this year.

“It’d be great if more of the city (attended the breakfast),” he said. “We always have a good turnout from the church. There’s always a few non-members who join us. It would be nice if we have a few more.”

Donations will be accepted at the pancake breakfast, he said.

The golf tournament in early June also is planned, said DeLoach.

“It’s a scramble tournament. The bigger, the better,” said DeLoach. “We are looking for sponsors for holes.”
