FMS teachers head way back in time to the 1780s

Students and staff at Frenship Middle School went back to the ’80s last week to raise money for a canned food drive, but some went further back in time than others.

Students were encouraged to donate a dollar to the South Plains Food Bank and dress up in fashions from the ’80s.

While many of the FMS students and staff enjoyed dressing in bright colors, short skirts with leggings and big hair, the social studies teachers decided to go back to the 1780s instead.

Linda Moudy, who teaches sixth grade world history, said her colleague Ariella Archer came up with the idea to go ultra-retro.

“It was a surprise to everybody. We did clear it with Mr. (Jerry) Jerabek,” said Moudy of the FMS principal.

One teacher, Ron McAfee, dressed up as founding father George Washington.

“We were trying to see how many of them could see it was the 1780s, not the 1980s,” said Moudy. “We got a lot of really weird looks. But they thought it was neat, they really did.”

FMS students are still trying to exceed the amount of money and cans raised last year. The ’80s day was sponsored by Student Council.
