Going wild: Families adopt North Ridge animals during summer months

Every summer, North Ridge Elementary School is the site of a mass migration. Animals of different species move from the classroom to homes to be cared for during the summer months.

Through the Summer Adoption Program, which is part of the school’s Zoo Crew, about 110 animals made the move this year. Through the program, families have chosen to adopt an animal for one month, two months or the entire summer.

North Ridge Elementary animals needing homes for the summer

North Ridge Elementary School is looking for volunteers to take care of classroom animals over the summer. Animals that still need homes are: two ring-necked doves; two hamsters; two gerbils; a fancy mouse; and two clawed frogs.

Kindergarten registration planned at Frenship campuses

Frenship elementary schools will host kindergarten registration 3:30-5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Children who are 5 years old by Sept. 1 will be eligible to enroll. To register, the child must have a certified birth certificate, immunization record, social security card and proof of residence. The person who enrolls the child must have a current picture ID.
